GROWING INFORMATION

Is it difficult to grow an amaryllis flower?

No! Not at all! But of course the quality needs to be great, what you can expect from our bulbs.

  • Bulbs can be planted immediately after receiving the package.
  • When bulbs are not planted directly, than the bulbs needs to be stored on a dry and dark place, between 5 and 12 degrees Celcius. To stimulate the rooting by planting these bulbs, place the roots of the bulbs 4 hours in the water.
  • The bulbs need to be planted 2/3 in the soil. 1/3 of the bulb must be visible. The soil should be slightly moist, not too wet.
  • Amaryllis likes a light and warm climate, with temperatures around the 18 à 25 degrees Celcius. Amaryllis can withstand the sun.
  • Important: Do not add water till the leaves and steal(s) are visibile
  • Nutrients are not required until after flowering; The bulb itselves contains enough nutrients.
  • Because the bulb gradually shrinks during blooming, the soil needs to be pressed carefully around the bulb.
  • After 7 to 10 weeks (depending on temperature) the amaryllis is blooming

Easy as that!

AFTER FLOWERING

  • Do not throw the bulb away after flowering. With proper care, the bulb can bloom again next year. But he must recover and need to increase significantly in size.

  • Occassionally watering during cool period
  • Place the pot after the cooling period at room temperature and remove the dead leaves
  • Do not give water until stem and leaves are visible
  • After 7 to 10 weeks (depending on the temperature), the amaryllis flowers again.
  • Bulbs which stay in same pot (not repotted) give longer stems!
